Our mission: to bring people together in harmony and fellowship to enrich lives through
singing
Everyone in harmony
|
“The Oregon Trail Pitchpipers” desire is to promote and sing a capella four part male
harmony in the Barbershop style. We love to share the joy of music with people of all
ages in our communities. We are available for special events such as birthdays,
anniversaries, or any gatherings. Our primary customers are senior citizens who live
in assisted living or retirement facilities.
|
We sing for pay when possible to cover our chapter expenses. We also perform at
community events in the greater Canby area, such as summer festivals and Christmas
festivals, and activities such as singing Christmas carols inside stores, Canby’s
Light up the Night celebration, and First Thursdays events. Our goal is to put smiles
on faces and happiness in hearts through music.

The Oregon Trail Pitchpipers is an a cappella singing organization that sings male
barbershop style music.
The Canby Chapter aka “The Oregon Trail Pitchpipers” started
in February, 1965 with the gathering of 17 men who wanted to sing. Attendance increased
as time passed by. The members were attending the Evergreen District conventions
as spectators to become better acquainted with the Barbershop style of harmony.
The charter was presented to the chapter on our charter show on May 2, 1967.
The Cascade Chorus from Eugene Oregon was the sponsoring chapter.

About a month after our charter show we entered our first District contest in Salem
Oregon which brought us a 4th place finish. The following year was in Spokane
Washington where we were awarded the position of District Chorus Champions.
This was under the musical direction of Wayne Schumacher.
We have had several music directors since Wayne.
We continue to entertain in the Canby and surrounding areas as well as producing our
annual chapter show, which was usually in February or March.
We are always looking for those men who like to sing. Please come and join us in a
song.
